The City of Cape Town's flagship YouthStartCT Entrepreneurial Challenge is celebrating a significant milestone this year, marking 10 years of empowering young entrepreneurs and supporting innovative business ideas across the metro.
Since its inception, the programme has become a launchpad for aspiring business owners, providing young entrepreneurs with access to mentorship, training, networking opportunities and business development support aimed at helping them transform their ideas into sustainable enterprises.
This year's competition attracted more than 700 entries from young innovators across Cape Town, demonstrating the growing appetite for entrepreneurship among the city's youth. The challenge continues to provide participants with valuable opportunities to sharpen their business skills, refine their business models and gain exposure to industry experts and potential investors.
Over the years, YouthStartCT has played an important role in fostering entrepreneurship and encouraging young people to pursue self-employment and business ownership as viable career paths. Through practical support and mentorship, the programme equips participants with the tools and confidence needed to navigate the challenges of starting and growing a business.
The initiative comes at a critical time as South Africa continues to grapple with high levels of youth unemployment. Programmes such as YouthStartCT contribute towards building a culture of entrepreneurship while helping young people create opportunities for themselves and their communities.
For many participants, the value of the programme extends beyond the competition itself. Access to business networks, mentorship and exposure to entrepreneurial ecosystems often opens doors to future opportunities, partnerships and growth.
As YouthStartCT celebrates a decade of impact, its success highlights the important role that entrepreneurship can play in driving economic development, innovation and job creation across Cape Town.
