Springbok Legends Unite Ahead of Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry

The SA Legends Breakfast, hosted at The Barnyard Theatre at Menlyn Park, featured former Springboks Victor Matfield, Steven Kitshoff, Breyton Paulse and Ray Mordt, who shared memories from their playing careers and reflected on what makes the rivalry so special.

The breakfast formed part of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry Tour, ahead of Saturday's Test between the Springboks and All Blacks at Ellis Park.

Legends share their memories

The former players reflected on some of the defining moments of their careers, the pressure of representing the Springboks and the unique emotion surrounding matches against New Zealand.

For Matfield, the enduring appeal of rugby comes down to the passion and pride surrounding the sport.

“Rugby is about passion, pride and the moments that bring people together. That’s what makes this game so special.”

Kitshoff also shared his excitement ahead of the upcoming Test, backing the current Springbok side.

“We’re really looking forward to Saturday. The boys know what’s at stake and I’m confident they’ll give it everything.”

Former Springbok wing Breyton Paulse facilitated the discussion, engaging the legends on memorable rivalry matches, career highlights and the moments that have helped shape the Springboks-All Blacks contest.

For Menlyn Park, the event was about bringing the Pretoria community together around a shared sporting passion while creating an experience beyond the traditional shopping centre offering.

Menlyn Park General Manager Nisha Kemraj said the centre was proud to host the gathering and celebrate South Africa's rugby heritage with its customers and the wider community.

With the Springboks and All Blacks meeting at Ellis Park on Saturday, 22 August, the breakfast provided an opportunity to celebrate the history of the rivalry while building anticipation for its latest chapter.
