SASSA Reminds Grant Beneficiaries Under Review of August Payment Changes

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has reminded social grant beneficiaries whose grants have been selected for review that they will receive their August 2026 payments on Friday, 7 August, instead of during the normal three-day payment cycle.

SASSA said beneficiaries should not panic if their grant is not paid on the usual payment dates, as payments for grants under review have been scheduled for the fourth payment day.

Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 4 August 2026
Disability Grant: Wednesday, 5 August 2026
Children's Grants: Thursday, 6 August 2026
Grants under review: Friday, 7 August 2026

The agency urged beneficiaries whose grants are under review to visit their nearest SASSA office during August to complete the review process after receiving their payment.

Failure to respond to a review request could result in a grant being suspended or lapsing in accordance with the Social Assistance Act.

How Will You Know If Your Grant Is Under Review?

SASSA said beneficiaries selected for a review are notified through an SMS sent to the cellphone number registered on its system.

The agency has urged beneficiaries to ensure that their contact details remain up to date by reporting any changes to their cellphone number, residential address or financial circumstances.

Why Does SASSA Conduct Grant Reviews?

According to SASSA, grant reviews are a legal requirement that helps the agency:

Confirm that beneficiaries still qualify for social assistance.
Protect the integrity of the social grant system.
Prevent fraud and abuse.
Keep beneficiary information accurate and up to date.

Documents You May Need

Beneficiaries attending a grant review should take the necessary supporting documents, which may include:

A valid South African ID.
Proof of income or an affidavit if unemployed.
Bank statements for the previous three months.
Proof of residence.
Proof of marital status, where applicable.
Grant-specific documents such as children's birth certificates or school attendance confirmation.
Any additional documents requested in the SMS notification.

Beneficiaries who are bedridden or medically unable to visit a SASSA office may arrange for an authorised representative to assist them.

SASSA has also encouraged beneficiaries to make use of its online services where possible to reduce queues at local offices. Free Wi-Fi is available at SASSA offices to help clients access digital services using their own smartphones.

The agency said it remains committed to ensuring that social assistance reaches all qualifying beneficiaries while protecting public funds through regular grant reviews.
