New Digital Platform Gives Township Athletes the Visibility They Deserve

A growing digital media platform is helping young athletes, families and communities stay connected by bringing township sport directly to viewers through live-streamed match coverage.

Founded by multimedia broadcaster and media professional Wandile Tonqa, AWEH KASI TV is a community-focused platform dedicated to showcasing youth sport and grassroots talent. Through live broadcasts and storytelling, the platform aims to provide visibility to athletes, schools, local clubs and communities that have historically received limited media exposure.

The initiative was founded on a simple but powerful belief: every young athlete deserves the opportunity to be seen.

While professional and private school sports often receive extensive media coverage, many talented young athletes in township communities continue to perform without the same level of recognition. AWEH KASI TV seeks to bridge that gap by providing a platform where local talent can shine and where communities can celebrate their achievements.

For many families, attending every sporting event is not always possible due to work commitments, transport costs or other responsibilities. Through accessible live-streamed coverage, the platform allows parents, guardians and extended family members to remain connected to the sporting journeys of their children.

Speaking about the vision behind the initiative, founder Wandile Tonqa said the platform was created to help unlock opportunities through visibility and storytelling. "Township sport is rich with talent, passion and discipline, yet many young players do not receive the visibility they deserve. We want to help create opportunities through exposure, storytelling and consistent coverage of grassroots sport," he said.

Beyond broadcasting matches, AWEH KASI TV hopes to contribute to the growth of the township sports economy by creating visibility for schools, tournaments, coaches and local sporting ecosystems. Football stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as an important tool for strengthening connections between players, families and communities while helping attract greater support for grassroots development. The platform is currently powered by a passionate volunteer team and continues to explore partnerships and sponsorship opportunities that will support future growth and create opportunities for aspiring young media professionals.

What This Means for Communities

  • Young athletes gain greater visibility and exposure.

  • Families can stay connected to important sporting moments.

  • Community tournaments and schools receive additional media coverage.

  • Grassroots sport can attract greater support from sponsors and partners.

As township sport continues to grow, platforms such as AWEH KASI TV are helping ensure that local talent receives the recognition it deserves while creating opportunities both on and off the field.
