Lerato Kganyago and Graeme Richards to Host 19th SA Sport Awards

The awards will take place on Sunday, 23 August 2026, at the Sun City Superbowl in the North West, under the theme “Crowned by Greatness.”

The ceremony will celebrate South African sporting achievements across 19 categories, recognising performances from the 2025 sporting year.

Two familiar faces take the stage

Kganyago, affectionately known as LKG, brings extensive experience in television, radio and live event hosting. Her broadcasting career has included work with SABC and Metro FM, as well as hosting major South African entertainment events.

Richards brings almost 25 years of broadcasting experience to the ceremony. He is currently a co-anchor on the Expresso Morning Show and has presented across television and other broadcast platforms.

Together, the pair will guide audiences through an evening celebrating some of the country's biggest sporting achievements.

Who could take home the top honours?

Among the nominees for the prestigious Sport Star of the Year award are:

• Temba Bavuma – Cricket

• Akani Simbine – Athletics

• Malcolm Marx – Rugby

The Sportswoman of the Year nominees include Proteas captain Laura Wolvaardt, canoeist Kira Bester and athletics star Prudence Sekgodiso.

The awards will also recognise South African athletes competing in disability sport, with Kgothatso Montjane, Sheryl James and Simoné Kruger nominated for Sportswoman of the Year with a Disability.

The Steve Tshwete Lifetime Achievement Award will recognise sporting figures who have made a lasting contribution to South African sport, with nominees including athletics legend Zola Budd, Olympic marathon champion Josiah Thugwane, motorsport pioneer Desiree Wilson and cricket figure Susie Pather.

The South African Sport Awards have been recognising the country's sporting excellence since 2005, with this year's ceremony set to bring athletes, sporting personalities and supporters together for an evening celebrating achievement and legacy.

The 19th South African Sport Awards will take place on Sunday, 23 August, at Sun City Superbowl and will be broadcast live on SABC 1.
